"The last fling before the ring"

Saturday was an eventful day for Michael and I as we celebrated our "last fling before the ring"!

During the day, we went out separate ways. It was a beautiful day! The guys went golfing in Port Austin. The girls went wine tasting, grabbed some lunch, and did a little random shopping in the "big" town of Bad Axe ;)

Lunch at the Gathering Place

Jello Shots!

We freshened up, changed clothes, had some drinks, and got on the bus! First stop... bathroom break! Second stop... bathroom break! Third stop... pick up more guests! Fourth stop... Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner! We had the whole patio to ourselves, which was really nice!

After dinner we headed to Coyote Joe's. It was a great time! Bull riding and dancing were definitely the highlights of the night!

After snacks and a 2am stop at Meijers, we finally arrived home at 3:45am.

The end!

Thank you to everyone who put the party together and to those that attended!

Birthday Weekend

Another birthday has come and gone...

It was a pretty relaxing/non-eventful weekend. In the past, I have celebrated a bit more (vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Party Bus, Bar hopping, Long Camping trips, etc) than I did this year... but this year relaxing with family was just as enjoyable!

I was reminded that this is my last birthday celebration as a single lady... Wowzers! Not to mention I feel old being "over the hill" of the 20's!

I was lucky to have been born on my Dad's birthday! It's always been a special celebration that we are able to share! The odds of being born on the same day is .2%!

Friday night Michael and I went out to a new restaurant (QB Blitz) in the next town over for beer and a burger. And they had my favorite... fried pickles! So I got those too! They were yummy!

Saturday (my birthday!) we went to Lakeport State Park and stayed at my Mom's campsite for the night. The dogs hate being stuck on a leash. They just want to runnnnn! They won't go pee or eat or poop at the campsite. They bark and whine until we take them for a walk. Spoiled I tell ya!

After sleeping in and then hanging around the campground for a couple hours on Sunday morning, we packed our stuff up and headed to my Dad's for a Birthday/Father's Day cookout. There was lots of delicious food! My Stepmom is a great cook! We visited, ate, took pictures, and relaxed. We had to rush home so Michael could get ready to leave for work. Typically his work schedule interrupts all of our weekend plans.... But we enjoyed the visiting while it lasted!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Happy father's day to all the amazing Dad's out there!

Green Thumb

I love this quote! Planting and maintaining a garden can be very fun and rewarding, yet sometimes it can be disappointing.

Last year we went all out. It was our third garden together and we decided we wanted more produce. It was my first summer of living at the house so I thought I would have more time to maintain it. That wasn't the case. Two gardens and only one me just wasn't enough hands to weed, pick, can, blanch, freeze, etc. I was super busy with the gardens and when Michael was home from work he always worked hard to help me catch up. We filled the freezer and the pantry and shared the rest with loved ones. Then said that we would not do that again! Especially not this year with the wedding and other summer plans. At one point, Michael and I agreed we wouldn't have a garden at all because we were so sick of gardening.

Then a couple weeks ago, I decided I couldn't skip having a garden. Seeing that section of dirt next to the raspberries and strawberries with no plants in it just wasn't right! So I ran the idea past the boss (aka Michael)... and he said only if we kept it minimal... a couple plants. I happily agreed!

This past weekend, the weather finally was nice enough to plant the garden! We went to the local greenhouse and purchased some plants as well as some flowers. Once we got to planting, Michael pointed out that our garden wasn't so small after all.... Haha! Opps! At least it's smaller than last year and there is only one garden. I'm looking forward to the fresh produce as well as canning and freezing goodies!

We planted sweet corn and green beans a couple weekends ago that is slowly coming up. This weekend we planted celery, asparagus, jalapeno peppers, orange and green peppers, squash, cucumbers, broccoli, and tomatoes!

Jack thought he was incognito in the overgrown grass as he watched me work in the garden
Dan spent some time in the yard as we planted the garden.. he was happy happy happy!

Do you plant a garden?! What are your favorite and least favorite things about having a garden?! What do you plant in your garden?! Happy planting and gardening!!

6/6

Happy Birthday to my soon to be husband!!

I'll never beat the first present I got him (insert sarcasm)... A smashed truck from hitting a deer.. parked in the garage with newly tinted windows, a balloon on the antenna, and a "please don't dump me" note on the center console. At least he liked the tinted windows and we're celebrating our 4th birthdays together! Haha :)

^^ Me squeezing the crap out of the Birthday boy!! ^^

So.. to give more details of the story about our first birthday celebrations together...

We had been together for about 4 months. I wanted to do surprise him with something he wouldn't expect. I came up with the idea of tinted windows on his pickup. I don't know how to drive a stick, he lives 2 hours north, therefore, he wouldn't ever expect to come home to it. I called Michael's Mom to go to the house to be sure he left a spare set of keys there and to inform her what was going on.

Then, with the help of my bestest buddy, Greg, he drove up with me late at night after work one night. 2 hours there. 2 hours back. Greg knew how to drive a stick, so he could drive it home. Then while we had it at my house, Greg was going to teach me how to drive a stick so that I could drive it back on my own since he couldn't go with me. Good plan right?! Well it was all a good plan until that damn deer ran into the side of the pick up on our way home from Michael's house. All I could think was "How am I going to tell him?!" "Am I going to tell him?!" "Maybe I shouldn't tell him?!" "Maybe it's not that bad..."

So the next morning I called his Mom and Dad. Hysterical. I figured his parents would be the best ones to know how he was going to react. Regardless, his windows were at the shop getting tinted. It was the least I could do! His parents told me not to worry about it, shit happens and he would understand. I felt a little better. But I still hadn't told him! It was so hard to act like everything was peaches and cream.... But I did it. After the windows were tinted, Greg spent some time with me teaching me how to drive this stupid, smashed, stick shift pickup.

I managed to learn how to drive it within a day and took it to his house the next day. Backed it in the garage so the smashed side was hidden. Tied a couple balloons to the antenna and left a note on the center console, explaining what had happened, apologzing, and begging him not to dump me. I'm pretty sure that note is still in his center console by the way... Haha!

All the while... Michael has noooooo clue his pickup is sitting in his garage, smashed. But at least it had tinted windows! I don't recall exactly how the conversation went when he came home from work that weekend, but I do know that he wasn't mad at me and he (obviously) didn't break up with me! The truck wound up costing his insurance $8,000 to get fixed! Whooooops!

This is just one of the many birthday memories we will share for many years to come! I look forward to sharing many many more! Happy Birthday to my love!!!!!
