Five on {a Freezing} Friday

Halleluiah! It's Friday! And it's still freezing outside {thankfully no longer freezing in my house}!
I'm happy the weekend is here {as always} and I'm happy to have survived this past hellacious week!
Let's talk about the week that I had.... Five things on this freezing Friday!

As you may have seen on my Instagram {@justjuliejoy} Tuesday morning I woke up to no heat and the house smelt like propane. My poor furbabies did not want to get out of bed! ^^^This was their expression on getting out of bed that morning. Of course this would only happen when Michael was gone to work. Nothing ever goes wrong when he's home, it's ALWAYS when he's gone. So I called my Mom {whose two hours away and obviously not going to be able to come help me} and she didn't really know what to do either. We both agreed it would be best to turn the furnace off so the gas would quit coming into the house. Eventually Michael checked his phone at work and called. He didn't want me to turn the furnace back on because he didn't want it to blow up with all that gas in the air. So I left for work. Left these two cute faces in bed. My blood pressure was through the roof. The house was 48 degrees and the weather outside had been below zero with 20-30mph winds. Ain't nobody got time for that!
The furnace guy said we're lucky we turned the furnace off because wires were already burning inside the furnace and eventually it would have just blown up. Wow. Counting my blessings that didn't happen! Then he said he couldn't get a furnace in until Thursday because he had to order one, he didn't have what we need on hand. Really?! Kill me now. Kidding. Tuesday night I barely slept. I was scared the space heaters were going to start a fire, or that the fire place was going to go out, or that a log would roll out of the fire and start a fire in the living room, or that the pipes in the house were going to freeze, etc etc. I'm a worry wart. I was up every 1-2 hours checking on things, putting wood on the fire, and making sure I was alive. Ha! Wednesday was another rough day. I was tired. My stress levels were extreme. Michael was too busy at work to be by his phone to keep in touch with me. I have no family around to go check on my house and dogs. Until finally I got ahold of Michael's uncle. Honestly, I don't know what I would do without his family. I don't think they realized that when I married Michael, I also married them. Poor people. Lol. Long story short, my in laws checked on my house and dogs, and the furnace guy was able to get in the house with someone being there. Last I knew, they were coming to put the new furnace in on Thursday afternoon when I was home from work. Until I came home to a surprise on Wednesday night... HEAT! They managed to get the furnace shipped sooner and completely installed Wednesday afternoon while I was at work! No one called Michael or I to let us know, they just did what they needed to do and contacted Michael's family because they knew we were at work. How awesome is that?!

Statement necklaces! I like it, I love it, I want some more of them!
This one is from Lia Sophia. It hangs in the back of my jewlery box so it's often forgetten about. I moved that beauty to the front! What's your favorite statement necklace or store to purchase them?!

Look at that face! Isn't he adorable?! This is Jack being thankful for heat! Laying on the register vent! ♥

Breaking news last night in my hometown, St. Clair.
Five garbage bags of body parts were found on the side of the road. Some body parts weren't even in bags. It happens to be in front of a high school friend's parents house. How creepy and disturbing!? Even though I don't live there anymore, it still comes too close to home. My Grandmother lives around the corner. My friends live nearby that area. Granted, they could have travelled from anywhere to dump the remains... such a cruel world we live in. I pray they find the person behind this mystery and I pray for the family of the victim(s). Here is an update from the news paper.

Last but not least, I had a few too many bottles of wine last night. Not glasses, bottles. Thirsty Thursday at it's finest! I will note that I did share those bottles with a girlfriend so don't judge me to be that big of a lush quite yet! ;) Side note, this wine is from my Bachelorette party last June! We went wine tasting at a local winery called Dizzy Daisy. Very delicous and affordable wine!

Did I mention I'm glad it's Friday?!
Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Sooo.. it's already Wednesday and I feel like this week has been hellacious. Oh wait, it has!

So what Wednesday...

So what if I not only watched the Bachelor wedding on Sunday night, but I also DVR'd it.
So what if that was 3 days ago and I'm just now getting around to talk about it.
So what if our furnace almost blew up and I've been living without heat for the last 2 days..and so what if now that I have heat all I want to do is sit on my rear and recoop heat into my body from my heated blanket.
So what if I've been sitting in the recliner since 6pm with a heated blanket reading blogs. {Especially the ones about the Bachelor Wedding!}
So what if I about had 1,000 meltdowns while dealing with it cause Lord knows it happened hours after the hubs left for work and clearly he couldn't help do anything from another state.
So what if I'm thinking about going to bed before 9pm tonight. It's been a rough couple days!

BUT.. before I go to bed... I must recap the famous Bachelor wedding! {So what??}
This is such a beautiful picture! However the second they walked down the aisle I gasped and then said {out loud} "AhhH!! Where's her bouquet?!" I may be detail oriented... So what?

I've got to say, I'm not much of a TV person. I don't really watch set shows but I do see random things on the news or other people's blogs, facebook, or Instagram so I kind of keep in the loop of anything worth my time. I haven't been a part of the blogging world for a long period of time, but somehow, I came across the adorable Shay. She is a great mom of two beautiful children, she has a handsome hubby, she posts delicious recipes, she has great fashion, she writes about normal every day life like the majority of us!

Then one day she wrote a post about her little brother, Sean. Need I say more?! Long story short, I thought it was so cool that I was following a blog "star"! Truth is, I felt like Oh I know them! When in all reality, I don't.. but because I stalk follow Shay's blog and read about her personal life, I feel like I know her family just as well! Even though I didn't watch the season of the Bachelorette with Sean on it, or his season of the Bachelor, I knew I had to follow this gorgeous couple and see their wedding on live TV! Not to mention Shay was in the wedding too!

I wasn't overly impressed with the broadcast considering they talked waaaay too much about the suspense leading up to their "wedding night extra curricular activities" and all sorts of other awkwards... but the wedding itself was perfect! Catherine looked so stunning!

I loved reading what Shay recapped about her behind the scenes experience here
and Sheaffer from Pinterest Told Me To wrote a belly busting, hilarious {yet oh so true} recap here!

So, what's your thoughts?! Did you watch the wedding?!

So what if I'm linking up with Life after I Dew for So What Wednesday ;)

Heres to hoping the rest of the week is better than the first half!

{Ice Fest} Winter Recap

I can't believe the weekend is over already! Even though it's been a couple months that I've been working Saturday's, I must admit, I'm still not used to it. I know there are many people in this world that work weekends and/or every day... however, that crap is not for me. I need more than a day off work to rejuvenate!

My one day off this weekend, Sunday, was pretty awesome.
We definitely accept the fact that we live in Michigan with freezing cold temperatures! Michael has wanted to attend Ice Fest in Frankenmtuh for several years. But it's never worked out with our schedules.

Earlier this week, the hubs informed me we were going and warned me to prepare to bundle up. No need to remind me... I realize this isn't a fashion show, I'm all about staying warm. Although I'm not going to lie, I wasn't really looking forward to being out in the low temperatures. I'm kind of over winter already. Ha!

In case you didn't know, I'm always the planner. Michael is always expecting me to plan something or arrange our schedule. So for him to tell ME that he had plans for us, I was impressed, relaxed, and happy! All I had to do was be ready to go at the time he told me to leave! He asked if I wanted anyone to join us and I said hey, your making the plans, you decide.

We wound up going to Frankenmuth around 9:30am Sunday morning with Michael's Ma and boyfriend, Rick. It takes two hours to get there from our house. Michael started the morning off with coffee and bailey's. I think that's a for sure sign of a good day, right?!

We got to Frankenmuth and made our way to check out all the snow/ice sculptures and then we headed to the warming tent to get a beverage. When all of a sudden my Mom and Greg came running at me! That sneaky little Michael arranged them to come meet us there and surprise me! Ya'll know I love seeing my Mumma every chance I can! So that made the day even better! And kudos to the hubby for setting it up and keeping a secret for a couple days... he's too good at surprises! Of course everyone but me knew what was going on and I was over here in my own world!

I loved spending time with our family and viewing these amazing sculptures! It must take a lot of talent to do!

This is the Pure Michigan Ice sculpture! Really neat!
Mom & Me!
Cocktails at Tiffany's
Last but not least, we stopped at the Sugar High bakery. They won season 7 of the Cupcake Wars on Food Network! They have the most amazing cupcakes!!!

It was certainly a great Sunday Funday!

Some other fun things we did this weekend was attend a farm appreciation dinner, play cards, {I got to kiss and cuddle this cute little guy} and work on our new snowmobile. I definitely didn't do the work though... that's Michael's forte. He had this bright idea to buy a sled that needs some work... I'm not quite sold on it yet, but it's still nice that he is spending the time to fix it up. He thinks I'm unappreciative, but I'm just hesitant to put the money into it! Time will tell....

Did anyone watch the Bachelor wedding tonight?! Ahhhh! So beautiful!
I hope you had a great weekend! Next weekend will be a new month! Whoa!

Liebster Award!

Helloooooo! I've been thinking about blogging all week... but I've got to admit, after the mishap of spilling wine on my laptop, the thought of going into my office to sit on my desktop computer was not appealing. However, Tuesday night I did attempt it... upon turning on my computer I got this huge WARNING message that said I had a virus. Great! So today, Michael {yes he's home!} went in and picked up the laptop in exchange for the desktop. I tell ya... if it's not one thing, it's another! I'm happy to have my laptop back and sit my butt on the recliner {minus the glass of wine} with my heated blanket in these negative temperatures and attempt to catch up on some things!

There's this little thing going around blog land called a Liebster Award and I was nominated not once, but twice! Thanks Ladies!

The liebster award isn't really an award... but more so a little way to share with new bloggers and followers a little bit about yourself.

I recently posted these random things about both the hubs and myself.

Additionally, here are some random things you may not know about me!

My ex-stepdad was in a band. When I was little I used to go to band practice with him and eventually I decided I wanted to learn how to play the drums. Soon after that, I got my own drum set. He taught me how to read music and how to play. In 5th grade I even did a song in the Talent Show at school. I continued to play until just before I went into high school.

I love cheese and ice cream! Definitely two things I have a hard time saying no to.

I only wash my hair 2-3 days a week. Which I didn't start doing until a couple years ago when I first got engaged and I wanted my hair to grow as long and as fast as possible for our wedding. I learned that shampoo really dries your hair out and not washing your hair allowed your hair follicle's to produce more nutrients at the root. I'm not really sure it helps my hair grow better, however my hair does feel healthier!

I had braces for 3 years. My retainer broke after 4 years of having braces off and I never got them fixed so I now have crooked teeth again. Someday I'll get the courage to get braces again!

I am named after my Grandma Julie (Mom's side) and my middle name is the same as both my Grandmother's - Ann.

1. What's your favorite quality about yourself?
I’m not sure if this means a personality or physical trait…. Personality: Social. I can get along with just about anyone. Physical: Smile. Smiling is my favorite.
2. What's your favorite TV show?
I’m not much of a TV person. I watch it when I have time or when I feel like it. But I’ve never followed a complete season of a show. When the Voice is on, I love to watch it when I am able to. I think Blake Shelton and Adam Levine are just hilarious!
3. If you could travel anywhere in the US where would it be?
I would love to go to a Yellowstone Park and camp. Although the thought of bears being around frightens me a tad.
4. If you could learn one hobby/skill what would be & why?
I would love to learn to sew. My Grandma used to teach me as a little girl, but it wasn’t something that I kept up on. Now she has passed and I regret not learning her amazing talent. I hope someday I am able to do so.
5. What's your #1 must have makeup product?
Eyelash curler. I can go without makeup anyday, but I can’t stand when my eyelashes aren’t curled even if I’m not wearing mascara. They are so long that they just go straight down into my eyes and it drives me crazy!
6. What's your go to outfit of choice?
Well it depends on if I’m going out in public or not… Haha. If I’m home, I’m all about being comfy. Fleece pants, a sweatshirt, and fuzzy socks. In the summer, I’m almost always in a comfy dress.
7. What do you keep in your purse?
Waaaay too much! Wallet, lotion, antibacterial gel, chapstick, lip gloss, nail file, phone charger, camera, purse hanger, pen, planner, glasses case, sunglasses, gum, mints, USB....
8. What would your dream meal consist of?
If I could eat Mac n Cheese from the Twisted Rooster every day, that would be divine!
9. What's your dream job & why?
A stay at home Mom! I know in today’s society that it is really tough to live off one income, but I think that it is amazing for a mother to be able to raise her own children and watch their every growth into a toddler.
10. Favorite thing to do for exercise?
I enjoy walking/running outdoors in the great fresh air with the beauty of nature surrounding me! I especially like going for walks or runs outside because I can take my dogs with me and they love it too!
11. Favorite thing about blogging?
I love that I have been able to document many things of my life here as well as share them with new friends! I hope that someday I will be able to look back on all of the things I have written as well as share them with my kids and grandkids!

1. Favorite childhood memory?
Hmmm… I have many memories. I recently looked back on lots of old pictures for a slideshow for our wedding and I have many memories with my brother. We had the best love/hate relationship there was. Hahah! I also have lots of memories of loving to be girly, getting dressed up, and of course having a mother that was a beautician always doing my hair. Talk about some 90’s hair on a 5 year old.. HA! I had to share a couple pictures just for laughs :)
2. If you had a super power, what would it be?
Making money. I'd plant money trees everywhere! Does that count as a super power?! Haha.
3. If you were a main character in a movie, who would you want to play you?
I honestly don’t really know any actresses because I don’t watch many movies…
4. Favorite flower?
Stargazer Lilly
I also love sunflowers, roses, football mums, and peonies.
5. Gold or silver?
6. What website do you waste the most time visiting?
My online banking... ha! I'm constantly checking our accounts, paying bills, and balancing my checkbook. I'm a little obsessive with keeping track of it!
7. Name one pet peeve:
I have soooo many pet peeves. I actually think this would make a great post topic. I can't stand when my dogs lick them selves. Whether it's their feet, their privates, or just their chops after eatting... I can't stand that sound! So gross...
8. Number of hours you slept last night
 8. That is my minimum allowance. Otherwise, I'm a crab!
9. What is your favorite day of the week, and why?

I love Sundays because it’s the only day that I’m guaranteed to not have to work. It’s also one of the only days that Michael and I get to sleep in together besides vacations J
10. What was your favorite holiday/vacation?

So far I must say that our honeymoon to Alaska was the greatest vacation ever!

11. Share your favorite blogger.

Oooohhh! This is a toughie because I have found so many great bloggers as well as great people! I’ll just say all of my followers are my favorites! ;)

Thanks again to Christie and Taylor for thinking of me when choosing their "nominations"!
I believe I am supposed to nominate someone to answer some of my questions as well as list some random facts about yourself!

Brittany at 26th of August
Emily at Beauty Blether
Biana at B Loved Boston

Your questions are:
What is your favorite book?
Where/What is your "happy place"?
What is one thing you cannot leave the house without?

Where do you see yourself in 3 years?
If you could travel anywhere in the US, where would it be?

Weekend Recap - Womp Womp

I used to enjoy these  government holidays, especially ones that made the weekend longer. But that wasn't the case this time. It didn't make my weekend longer and it sure as hell didn't make my weekend any better. Womp womp.

I’m sure your thinking, it couldn't have been that bad!
Let's just say, I've had better...
Michael arrived home on Friday evening after two long weeks of being gone at work. Thank God! I was about the go insane. Oh wait, that still happened. So we spent a handful of hours together Friday night before we crashed. Literally, crashed. I sleep so much better with him by my side that I just pass right out and don’t wake up 1,000,000 times throughout the night.
Saturday morning I had to work. Womp womp. Working the weekends is one of the things I dislike the most.  Mostly because it's every stinkin' weekend. Especially considering it completely interrupts the time Michael and I could be home together. So that’s just never a good start to the weekend.
Saturday afternoon, despite my crabby attitude, Michael and I took the dogs out squirrel hunting. It was a really nice day. Minimal wind and the sun was shining. And we were together. Winning.

After miles of walking through knee high snow, we were all exhausted and on the couch by 7pm. Apparently the exercise and fresh air got the best of us! Ha.

After the above conversation Saturday morning, Michael decided to go squirrel hunting in this tournament. Womp womp. So he got up at 3am on Sunday morning to travel to be in a squirrel hunting tournament. Long story short, I was not happy. On a better note, out of 256 teams, Michael and his friend got 7th and won $165.

While the hubs was MIA out hunting the chunky monkeys, I took some engagement pictures of my girlfriend and her fiance to keep me occupied. These are the friends that I helped set up their engagement in the their front yard last month! I am by no means a professional... but it fits their budget!

After dwelling on the fact that I only seen Michael for 15 piddly hours over a period of 16 days, I decided I wasn't sitting at home alone any longer so I ventured to my Mom's. I had a meeting in the city Monday morning anyways. I was able to spend a little time with my Mom and little sister. {They fought over who I was going to sleep with. Jasmine won and it reminds me of the days when we used to live together and she slept with me every night. If I could turn back time to relive those good old days, I totally would.}

Even though MLK Jr. Day is one of the paid holidays I receive {I am thankful for all paid holidays even though I'm about to sound like a greedy b*tch....}, I had to spend it in a meeting for half the day and then drive two hours home. Luckily, I was able to squeeze in a little more time with my Mom and grab some lunch before I drove the dreaded ride. If  I'm being honest right now {which you may have noticed, I am} I think it's kind of silly to give your employees a paid holiday and then say oh hey, mandatory meeting at 8:30 am on MLK Day. Womp womp. <-- Notice the theme today?! Negative Nancy in the house!

As always, the weekend came and went. Michael's off to work again and I'm being a negative Nancy because I didn't get to spend merely enough time with him. Maybe tomorrow I will wake up on the other side of the bed! In the mean time, I'll look forward to the next weekend!

Here's to a short(er) work week!

Well.. we're a whopping 2 weeks into the New Year and it wasn't too long ago that everyone was sharing their resolutions and goals... I posted mine here.

I literally think about those goals on a daily basis. Every penny I spend. Every time I should be working out but I'm much more comfortable on the couch, oh and let's not forget about every stinkin' morning when I'm rushing around for work because I didn't get up when the alarm went off. Fail.

The whole morning routine thing is just not working. I. can't. get. up. The biggest problem: I don't know I'm doing it. The next problem: How can I not want to get up after sleeping for 9-10 hours???!!! I'm open to suggestions. Please and thank you!

It's too soon to tell how budgeting is going. I do know I've avoided temptation by throwing away catalogs in the mail, coupons, and I've even passed up the 50% off sweater sale at Kiki LaRue. Now that's big progress if you ask me! Haha.

Exercise routine is going okay. Not great. Not bad. Just blah. I have to reallllllly push myself. It's boring. It's cold in the basement. My hips ache. {I may be the age of a spring chicken but I'm stuck in a Grandma's body!} And honestly, I'm just lazy most nights. The first step is admitting, right? Excuses are plentiful, but regardless, I'm still fitting it in. Maybe not as often as I want to be but it is what it is.

I did try to make our little exercise area in the basement more welcoming. I almost had the hubs talked into carpet for this area....but dang... that crap isn't cheap! Which leads back to the budgeting.... it's a sick cycle.
What is especially boring is when I'm on this elliptical machine staring at this boring wall and dry erase board {from Michael's workouts back in the day}. Maybe I should write some encouraging words on it.... then again that will get boring after reading it over and over... and I'd probably spend too much time trying to be creative... :)

Those are my biggest works in progress. I've also been working on my water intake pretty good as well as a few other small goals. How about you? Are you staying accountable for your 2014 goals and resolutions??!

Side note: I spilled a glass of wine on my lap top over the weekend due to my spoiled dog that insists she sits on my lap even though I told her no. Grrr... So this is the most I've typed on it since then. I've avoided using it because it makes me mad... But I never want to sit at the desktop in the office. Therefore, I might have just changed my mind about being cheap and not taking it in to get fixed....  back to square one with budgeting. Le sigh.

Speaking of those spoiled dogs getting on my lap... All. the. time.
Notice the wine in my hand again... good thing the laptop wasn't around!
It's a good thing we're not claustrophobic in this house

Until next time!
Happy Hump Day!
