Christmas Festivities

Christmas gatherings have kept us insanely busy over the last week and a half on top of us all having a yucky cold which has gotten me even more behind on blogging than I already was! The last few days have been spent trying to go through Remington's over abundance of new toys and clothes, cleaning up the house, taking down decorations, trying to get back on a schedule, and relaxing of course. Did I mention how awesome it is to have Michael home with us every day??!

Prepare for a picture overload of Remington's first Christmas!

12.19.15 - Christmas at the Farm
Great Grandpa Erv
12.22.15 Dinner with Grandpa and Grandma Joy
12.23.15 Michael and I took a drive to see Nicol's Christmas Light show. It's my favorite! So amazing! Remington lost interest after about 5 minutes. Ha!
12.24.15 Christmas Eve dinner with the Mason's (Lolo & Lola)
12.25.15 Christmas morning at home and then way too long the rest of the day at Grandma Sharon's
12.26.15 Snacks, dinner, drinks, and cards with my Mom and the Furtah family
12.27.15 Lunch with Mom, Greg, Aunt Toni, Olivia, Jasmine, and Gammy Julie
To say our Christmas this year was hectic is an understatement. The fact that Remington and I didn't feel good probably made it seem worse. I've already decided that next year we will have to do things differently. Spending so much time traveling from place to place and then over 10 hours at my MIL's on Christmas Day was waaaay too much. I felt like I was turning into the Grinch. Now that we have a little family of our own, I would like to be able to spend more time celebrating Christmas together and making our own traditions rather than running the roads for so many gatherings.
On a brighter note, we were completely overwhelmed and thankful for so many wonderful gifts people gave Remington (and us!). She truly is a spoiled and loved little girl! Although she didn't have much interest in anything besides removing bows off the presents, it was still so fun to share Christmas Joy with a little one!
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas! I wish you a New Year filled with love, happiness, success, and many blessings!

Christmas Card + Wishes

It's been a hot minute since I've posted let alone read any posts. I don't really have an explanation besides I've been busy being a Mom. An exhausted Mom at that! Michael is home for the winter due to work lay off and let me tell you... I am so happy! It's nice to see him every day and it's especially nice to have some help with Remington. Helloooooo sleep! :)

I had great intentions of writing some holiday posts such as a Christmas wishlist... but then I realized that there is only one thing I want for Christmas and it's not a list of material items. All I want for Christmas is a SOLD sign in front of our house so we can live together as a family permanently. If you see Santa, send him my way... Or even better, say a little prayer for us!

I was waaaay behind on the Christmas card thing this year. I didn't have time to design my own and I didn't like many designs on the websites. I went the cheap and easy way out and then I wasn't very happy with my choice. I took 3 weeks to address them (because I'm too cheap to pay Minted) and as Christmas got closer I decided to take a holiday picture of Remington to include. Which prompted another stall in sending them out on time. But, lo and behold, I got them out and here they are! Vista Print doesn't provide an electronic version (boohoo) so I had to take a picture of the cards. So silly.

May your Christmas be Merry and Bright! ♥

Remington Rose ♥ 8 Months

Gosh, I look at this pictures and feel like my little girl is getting older by the minute! And the minutes keep flying by! In 4 short months, I'll have a 1 year old?! Holy smokes!

So serious.
Hey, check out my toofies!

I wanna cry, but your making me laugh Mama!

Weight/Length: I have no idea. She's heavy though. Good arm work out for Mama!
Clothes: Squeeeeezing into the 9 months and slowly working our way into the 12 months. I wish I could shop for baby clothes all day every day. Soooo cute.
Sleep HabitsNo changes here. Bahhumbug. Remington fights sleep like it's her job. She will hang on my leg or crawl around crying for an hour or longer before she caves and goes to sleep. But before that happens, she has to have her blankie. Some nights she is up every hour and some nights she sleeps for 2, cries, then goes back to sleep for 2 more. But no way in hell will she sleep longer than 4 hours. Then it's feeding time and that little ham doesn't miss a bubba.
Naptimes aren't any better... most mornings she will only nap for 30-45 minutes. I typically wear the Ergo and sometimes I'll get an hour out of her. Which limits what I can do during nap time if I'm carrying her. In the afternoon she sleeps a little longer. Usually an hour and a half. 2 hours on a really good day.
Eating Habits: Baby girl loves to eat! We are at 8oz per feeding plus fruits or veggies with every meal. I've started giving her pieces of food on her tray but she has zero interest in putting the food in her mouth. She just makes a giant mess! She's got the concept of chewing down though!
DiapersChanging diapers has to be quick. She rolls over and takes off with a naked butt before I can even blink! She is in size 4 Honest diapers. The winter prints are just so cute!
Appearance: The only change here is that we now have FOUR teeth!
Blue eyes, big chubby cheeks (that I love to kiss!) and big chubby thighs (aka hams) that I love to squeeze! Her hair is getting thicker and seems to be a dirty blonde except in the very back on her neck where it's still dark brown. It's like a natural ombre! Ha!
We've been discharged from physical therapy for her torticollis and we still work on the exercises at home just to be sure she doesn't fall back into where her head is comfortable. She still favors her head to the right side a teeny tiny bit, but for the most part she's doing great!
Nicknames: Sassy pants, Stinker pie, Rem, Remi, Remi Roo, Tiny, Tiny Toots, Pumpkin, Baby, Monster
FirstsRemington celebrated her first Halloween as a reindeer. First Thanksgiving. She's tried lots of new foods. She learned to climb stairs. Rode in the big girl seat of the shopping cart. Took her first bath in the big tub. (I feel like there's so much more, but I can't remember!)
Doing/Learning: There is officially no safe zone in the house. She is curious and gets into anything she can get her hands on! She's getting quicker with her bear crawling. She's a pro at pulling herself up onto anything and she often lets go with one hand or even both hands except a finger. She walks along furniture and is getting risky with reaching from couch to table to chair. Little dare devil. She is learning to waving hello/goodbye. She snorts like some sort of animal. She is starting to sound out "mmmm" "daaaaa" and she babbles "baaabababa" all day long! She says "woof woof". She's learned how to tell when the dog gate isn't latched so she opens it with one hand, sneaks through, and takes off crawling as fast as she can. She pushes her walker toy and seat around but when she sits in her seat she only moves backwards. She opens the fireplace. One time I left the room for 2 seconds and came back to black ashes everywhere. Sigh.
Likes: She still likes the same stuff plus a few new ones - playing/chewing on the strings of a hoodshirt, playing peekaboo, standing at the entertainment center, playing under the dining room table and chairs, anything that makes noise, playing with Mama's makeup, dancing to Mickey Mouse's "hot dog" dance.
being outside, looking outside, stuffed animals, bath time, looking in the mirror, the TV remote, any sort of wires (tv, swing, phone chargers, vacuum, etc), blankets, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Mommy's iPhone, the dogs, dog dishes, dogs ball, books, unfolding the laundry, sitting under the cupboard where the gallons of water are.
Dislikes: She still dislikes the same stuff. The new thing she really dislikes is when I tell her no or I walk out of the room or when I set her down. She especially dislikes when I go on the other side of the dog gate and keep her locked out. She still reaaaaally hates riding in the pickup.
Falling asleep, getting her diaper changed, getting dressed/undressed, socks, not being able to reach something, having something taken away from her, having to wait to eat, strangers.
Mommy's FeelingsEvery day I am beyond thankful to have this little girl in my life! I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again... being a Mom is one of the most challenging and exhausting jobs yet it is also the most joyful and rewarding job the world.

Giving Thanks

I hope you all had a nice holiday! Can you believe it's December?! The last month of the year! Whoa!

I'm a little late to the Thanksgiving party... last week I was busy preparing for company and spending time with our families. Everyone just left yesterday after a long weekend visit. Even though it's nice to have company, it's also nice to get the house back in order and get back into a routine.

I feel that being thankful is easily forgotten about until this time of year. I'll be the first to admit that I let little things get to me which steal my joy and thankfulness. Actually, if I'm being honest, that's been happening a lot lately.  Sometimes I dwell on the negatives more than I am thankful for the positives. However, I truly have so much to be thankful for. I need to start focusing on giving thanks not just on Thanksgiving, but every day... and not just on the good days, but also on the "bad" days.

So today, I'm reminding myself to give thanks - To God. My hard working husband who provides for our family and spends days/weeks away from home to do so. My beautiful daughter who makes me smile everyday. My caring family and friends (blog friends too!). My health. My fancy camera that captures priceless memories. Sleep - even if it's just 5 hours (hello teething). And lastly, hot showers. Of course I could make a list a mile long, but those are the important things I am currently feeling thankful for!

Now to recap our long weekend in traditional recap form considering I didn't take many pictures. Fail.

On Thanksgiving Day, we joined Michael's family for the first time in 5 years since my family wasn't getting together until Saturday. Remington enjoyed playing and watching the other kids.

On Black Friday, I headed to the city to do a little shopping after the morning rush. I really didn't come across any great deals that I was hoping to. I picked up my sister and cousin along the way and headed back home. Michael wanted to go out hunting so I was on a tight time schedule. That evening, I played some games with the girls and had a couple glasses of wine.

Saturday we had Thanksgiving at our house. My Mom headed up after work and I had dinner all ready. Michael had to leave for work shortly after we ate. The rest of the evening was spent playing games with the girls and having a couple more glasses of wine. (see a pattern?!)

Sunday was a lazy day around the house. Except for a little excitement in the morning... Greg proposed to my Mom! Was totally not expecting that! It was also her birthday! We may have had some more wine and played games Sunday night....

Monday morning everyone was getting ready to head home. I spent the majority of the day cleaning and getting the house back in order.

Overall, nothing too crazy for Remington's first Thanksgiving. Mostly just time spent with family and lots of overindulgence of food! But most importantly, this adorable wild turkey of ours that we are forever grateful for!

What are you giving thanks for?!

Butternut Squash Soup

Butternut squash soup is something that I've literally wanted to make for years and for some reason never took the time to do it!
Ever since I cleaned up our garden and brought all the remaining squash into the garage, I've been searching for squash recipes to try so I could use up some of what I had laying around. If you ask me, fall weather screams SOUP!
So, if you like squash.. and you like a good 'ol cup of soup... then this recipe is a must try!
2 medium sized butternut squash (or you could buy pre-cut squash or use already pureed squash)
2 tbsp EVOO
1 small onion - diced
3 cloves of garlic - minced
2 cans (14.5 oz) chicken broth
3 tbsp. butter (optional)
Salt and Pepper to taste
• Half and clean squash - Place in baking dish with a half inch of water - Cover with tinfoil and bake for 45-60 minutes or until tender. Remove from oven and let cool.
• While squash is cooling, heat EVOO in a small pan - add diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until tender.
• Begin spooning squash into blender - Add garlic and onion mixture - Add 1 can of broth - blend. If mixture is still thick, begin adding second can of broth until you reach the desired consistency.
• Put squash mixture into a pot on medium-low heat - add butter, if desired.
• Add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg and some salt and pepper to taste.
I feel like I'm forgetting something... but nope, it's really just that easy! I served myself a bowl with some warm garlic bread. Yummm!

Weekending | Guns + Teething Baby

 Happy Monday!
I couldn't tell you the last time that...
a) I posted our weekend recap
b) I did a link up (I kind of forgot what I'm doing)
c) I am happy on a Monday morning... but the hubs is home for an extra day! Yay!
So on that note, I'm linking up with the beautiful Biana for some weekending fun!
This weekend was the opening day of gun season. Which is one of our favorite weekends of the year! So of course I planned ahead and made sure my Mom would be able to come over for the weekend to help with little Miss Sass!
Remington was ready to cheers to the weekend! Stinker pie grabbed this shot of buttershots out of the freezer Friday afternoon. Anything cold on the gums is her happy place lately! (No worries, it was still unopened)
Saturday morning we worked on some baby proofing. The kitchen cabinets and electrical outlets throughout the house officially had to be safety proofed since this little stinker pie is into everrrrrything!
I also worked on our Christmas Cards! I usually design my own on Picmonkey and have them printed at a local shop, however I just don't have time for that this year. I did some shopping and comparing prices and wound up going with Vistaprint. I used a 50% off coupon (BRIGHT15) and scored cards for 57 cents a piece! I really wanted to try Minted this year for their envelope addressing... but even with a coupon, I still would have been spending over $150. Which I just can't phantom doing. We're trying to be more savy with our money and spending money on something that's most likely getting thrown away is hard for me to do! The hubs tried to talk me out of sending any at all... (which I couldn't imagine not doing that) then he tried to tell me to just buy cheap basic holiday cards at Walmart. Men... they just don't get it! Haha!
Saturday afternoon we headed out to sight in our guns. Nothing like last minute, the day before gun season starts. I guess that's what happens when Michael is always working. We headed over by the farm rather than by our house where we hunt. It was windy as hell, so it took longer than expected. Remington wasn't a fan of the ear muffs and a spoon is her new favorite thing to play with.

Saturday evening was pretty low key. The girls arrived for the night and we all just relaxed. Remington has been teething pretty bad in the evenings. Plus she fights sleep like no other so between the two, she was pretty crabby. Therefore, we I drank wine.
Sunday morning Michael and I headed out to the hunting blind bright and early. Waking up at 5am after being up with Remington twice, wasn't very fun. But I survived. The morning sit was pretty uneventful. Heard lots of gun shots though. We headed in the house for a break for a few hours. I begged made Michael take a selfie on our walk back into the house. He likes to protest pictures. But I like to have memories to look back on. Therefore, I win.
If I didn't take pictures, we couldn't look back on our first season of hunting together in 2010. Babies. Thinner babies. ♥
I worked on packing away Remington's clothes that no longer fit. It made me kind of sad that she couldn't wear any more of it. It also made me kind of sad to think about how fast she's growing!
Then we headed back out to the blind for the afternoon/evening hunt. Which was much more eventful. Even though we didn't get to tag a deer, it was still nice to be out in the woods and also to spend some time together. Even if we were silent or whispering, it was still probably the most time we spent together in 6 weeks.
We rounded the evening up with saying goodbye to the family before they headed home. Remi sure does love when the girls are around!
Despite the teething baby, I'd say we had a pretty good weekend! How about you?!
